Electric Mercedes-AMG GT SUV revealed with 860kW and due in Australia late 2027

Mercedes-AMG has revealed the GT SUV, the first full-size SUV the performance brand has developed entirely in-house. The battery electric five-seater shares its AMG.EA platform with the GT 4-Door Coupe and makes up to 860kW in top GT 63 form.

Australian arrivals are expected in late 2027, following the electric GT 4-Door Coupe, which is expected here in March 2027. Mercedes-Benz Australia is expected to offer the GT 63 first, but local pricing, specification and exact timing have not been confirmed.

The GT 63 and GT 55 have a continuous output of 530kW, which Mercedes-AMG says means repeatable performance rather than short bursts. Top speed is 270km/h with the optional Driver’s Package. All figures are preliminary European data.

Fast charging and a big battery

The 800-volt battery uses directly cooled cylindrical cells inspired by Formula 1 technology. With the 128kWh pack, DC charging peaks at 710kW and can add up to 450km of WLTP range in 10 minutes. A 10 to 80 per cent charge takes about 12 minutes on a fast enough charger, while the car can also charge at older 400-volt sites.

Size, sound and tech

At 5084mm long and 2001mm wide, the GT SUV sits between the Mercedes-Benz GLE and GLS in size, with a 607-litre boot and a 78-litre front boot. It gets AMG Active Ride Control+ air suspension with active pitch and roll control, rear-wheel steering, and an AMGFORCE Sport+ mode that plays recorded V8 or six-cylinder sounds with simulated gear changes. Inside there is a 14-inch central screen, a 10.2-inch driver display and an optional 14-inch passenger screen.

Price and rivals

In Germany the entry GT 53 opens orders on 20 October from 113,050 euros, with the GT 63 and GT 55 following in spring 2027. Australian pricing has not been announced, but the GT 63 is expected to line up against the electric Porsche Cayenne Turbo. For comparison, the petrol Porsche Cayenne starts well below that, and Mercedes’ current electric flagship range includes the EQE. Other high-powered electric arrivals due here include the Avatr 06T wagon and the Range Rover Sport Electric.
