Volkswagen ID. Tiguan revealed as the ID.4 and ID.5 replacement, expected in Australia in the first half of 2027

Volkswagen has revealed the new ID. Tiguan, a fully electric mid-size SUV that replaces both the Volkswagen ID.4 and the coupe-styled ID.5. It takes its name from the petrol, diesel and hybrid Volkswagen Tiguan, which continues alongside it.

European sales start in early 2027. The ID. Tiguan is expected in Australia in the first half of 2027, but Volkswagen Australia has not yet confirmed local timing, pricing or which versions will be sold here.

Three powertrains and up to 600km of range

The ID. Tiguan moves to the updated MEB+ platform and launches in three versions.

Volkswagen quotes up to 600km of range on the WLTP test, depending on battery and power. Boot space is up to 534 litres, plus a 32-litre front boot.

What it replaces

The ID.4 and ID.5 arrived in Australia in 2025, and Volkswagen says more than 950,000 have been built worldwide. The ID. Tiguan swaps their rounded crossover look for a squarer SUV design, and the coupe-style body of the ID.5 is not continued.

A new cabin with more physical buttons

Inside there is a 10-inch driver display, a 15-inch central touchscreen and an optional 12-inch passenger display with a privacy mode. Volkswagen has brought back physical buttons for the climate controls and steering wheel, and added a volume controller on the centre console.

Other features include one-pedal driving, an assisted lane change and traffic light stop function, a digital key and a vehicle-to-load adapter. Massage and ventilated seats, a Harman Kardon sound system and a panoramic roof are optional overseas.

Pricing

Pre-sales in Germany and other European markets opened on 13 October 2026 from 42,695 euros. Australian pricing will be announced closer to launch. Until then, buyers can compare the current ID.4 range.
