Changan confirms Nevo brand for Australia in 2027 led by the Q05 small SUV
Chinese car giant Changan has confirmed its mainstream Nevo brand will launch in Australia in 2027. The Q05 small SUV is expected to be the first model in local showrooms, giving the group a value-focused rival for BYD, MG, Geely and GWM.
Changan Australia head of brand and marketing Andrew Haurissa confirmed the plan at the Paris Motor Show, saying the first vehicle after the luxury Avatr brand will be a Nevo. He added that it is still to be decided whether the cars wear Nevo or Changan Nevo badges here.
What is Nevo
Nevo is sold in China as Qiyuan and has only existed since 2023, but it has quickly become one of Changan’s best sellers. Changan says the Q05 has been China’s top-selling compact SUV for the past six months. Within the group, Nevo sits below Deepal and the premium Avatr brand, whose Avatr 06T electric wagon is also headed here.
Unlike Deepal, which is distributed in Australia by independent importer Inchcape, Nevo and Avatr will be run by Changan’s own factory-backed local operation. Deepal stays as it is, and the Deepal E07 is closely related to a vehicle sold under the Nevo name in China.
Nevo Q05 at a glance

A right-hand-drive Q05 is already on sale in Thailand, which should make an Australian launch simpler. Overseas the Nevo range includes both full electric and range-extender hybrid models, where a petrol engine works only as a generator to charge the battery on the move. Which powertrains Australia gets for the Q05 is still to be confirmed, so the range-extender version is expected rather than locked in.
More models to follow
The larger Q06 mid-size SUV, offered in China as an EV or range-extender, is another likely early arrival. The A06 sedan is part of Nevo’s European line-up but has not been confirmed for Australia.
Changan plans 40 to 50 dealers for its mainstream brands, compared with about 10 luxury outlets for Avatr. If the expected pricing holds, the Q05 would line up against the BYD Atto 3 and MG4 in the most competitive part of the market. See our average new car price guide for where that bracket sits.
What it means for buyers
Another factory-backed Chinese brand should mean more choice and sharper pricing in the small electrified SUV class. Buyers should wait for local specs, warranty terms and safety ratings before committing, which Changan says will be announced in the coming months.
