Avatr 06T electric wagon confirmed for Australia in late 2027 with up to 712kW
Changan’s premium brand Avatr has confirmed the 06T electric sports wagon as its second model for Australia. Avatr Australia says the 07L SUV remains on track for the first half of 2027, with the 06T to follow in the second half of 2027. Australian pricing, grades and specifications have not been announced.
The timing mirrors Avatr’s European rollout, where the 07L and 06T will also lead the line-up. Right-hand-drive 06T prototypes have already been seen testing around Sydney.
What powers the Avatr 06T overseas
The figures below come from Avatr’s global site for the Chinese market car. Australian versions may differ, and range figures use the Chinese CLTC test, which reads higher than the WLTP figures used for Australian advertising.
| Version | Drive | Peak power | 0 to 100 km/h |
|---|---|---|---|
| Three-motor electric | All-wheel drive | 712 kW | 2.78 seconds claimed |
| Two-motor electric | Rear-wheel drive | 502 kW | Not published for Australia |
| Range extender | Petrol generator and electric drive | Not confirmed for Australia | Not confirmed |
Battery and charging
The electric 06T runs on an 800 volt platform with a CATL 5C fast-charging battery of 89.33 kWh, and Avatr quotes up to 741 km of range on the CLTC cycle. The range-extender version uses a 46.65 kWh battery with up to 330 km of electric range and 1250 km combined on the same test. Avatr has not said whether the range extender will come to Australia.
The rear-drive versions do not use a single rear motor. Separate motors drive the left and right rear wheels, which lets the car vary torque between them for sharper handling.
Where the 06T fits in Australia
The 06T is a five-door performance wagon, a body style few brands still sell here. Its closest electric rival will be the Zeekr 7GT, which Zeekr plans to price below the Zeekr 7X. We covered that car in our story on the Zeekr 7GT electric wagon.
Price will matter for company car buyers. Under the federal government’s proposed changes from April 2027, only qualifying electric cars valued at $75,000 or less keep the full fringe benefits tax exemption, so where Avatr sets the entry price will decide how many novated lease buyers look at the 06T.
What we still do not know
- Australian pricing and grades
- WLTP range and battery choice for local cars
- Warranty, servicing and how many dealers will sell Avatr models
- Whether the range-extender version will be offered
Avatr has indicated that 07L pre-orders will open before the end of 2026. Until the 06T arrives, buyers wanting a fast electric five-door can compare options in our list of the best electric SUVs under $60,000 and our guide to public EV charging costs.
