Kia PV5 Cargo electric van priced from $55,990 before on-road costs in Australia
Kia Australia now lists the all-electric PV5 Cargo as a light commercial van, with launch pricing of $55,990 before on-road costs. The model is offered as a single grade, the PV5 Cargo S 4DR Long Range, with a 71.2 kWh battery and up to 416 km of WLTP range.
The specifications below come from Kia Australia’s official PV5 Cargo page. The $55,990 figure is a recommended retail price that excludes registration, stamp duty and other charges, so your final cost will depend on your state and dealer. For a plain explanation of how those extras stack up, read our guide to on-road costs versus list price.
What Kia is offering in Australia
The PV5 Cargo is front-wheel drive and uses a single electric motor rated at 120 kW and 250 Nm, sent through a one-speed reduction gear. It seats two, with a solid partition between the cabin and the load area. Access comes through dual manual sliding doors and twin swing rear doors, and the cargo floor is flat.
Kia lists the van on 16-inch steel wheels with wheel covers. Instead of a spare wheel it carries a tyre mobility kit, which is worth noting if your vehicles work in remote areas or carry heavy loads.
Price and what it covers
Kia’s launch price is $55,990 before on-road costs for the PV5 Cargo S 4DR Long Range. That is the only price basis used in this article. Kia’s online Build and Price tool also lists the PV5 Cargo and shows a drive-away estimate that includes the recommended retail price, 12 months of registration, an estimate of 12 months of CTP insurance, stamp duty and an estimated dealer delivery charge. Kia says the estimate excludes government, fleet and rental buyers, and that dealers may charge more or less.
We have not seen a fixed national drive-away price for the PV5 Cargo, so ask each dealer for a written drive-away quote in your state before you compare it with any rival van.

Cargo space, payload and towing
Kia quotes a maximum internal cargo length of 2,255 mm, a width of 1,565 mm and a height of 1,520 mm, with a low rear step-in height of 419 mm. The load area has eight tie-down points. The 4,420 L volume is measured to the VDA standard and may not match the space you can actually use for your freight.
The maximum payload is 740 kg against a kerb weight of 1,910 kg and a gross vehicle mass of 2,650 kg. If your work involves dense loads such as tools, tiles or pallets of stock, check that figure against what you carry on a typical day. Braked and unbraked towing are both listed at 750 kg, with a maximum towball download of 75 kg, so this is not a heavy-trailer van.
Range and charging
The 416 km figure is a WLTP laboratory number. Kia says real-world results vary with driving style, load, battery condition, climate control use and weather, so plan routes with a buffer. On a 350 kW DC charger Kia quotes about 30 minutes for a 10 to 80 per cent top-up, and about 61 minutes on a 50 kW charger. On an 11 kW AC charger a 10 to 100 per cent charge takes about 6 hours and 30 minutes, which suits an overnight depot or home charger.

Safety, technology and power on site
Kia lists autonomous emergency braking that covers cars, pedestrians, cyclists and junction turning, lane keeping assist, blind spot collision avoidance with rear cross traffic assist, a surround view monitor, parking sensors and smart cruise control. Inside there is a 7.5 inch digital driver display and a 12.9 inch touchscreen with wired and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus over-the-air updates. Kia Connect services are complimentary for seven years from the warranty start date.
The van also offers vehicle-to-load power through an interior socket and an exterior adaptor that converts the charge port to a standard Australian socket. That can turn it into a basic mobile power source for tools and small equipment. Check the ANCAP website for any published safety rating before you buy.
What to check before you buy
Confirm the price basis in every quote, because $55,990 is before on-road costs.
Match the 740 kg payload and 750 kg towing limit to your daily work.
Work out where and when each van will charge, and how far it must travel between charges.
Ask about delivery timing and any fleet terms directly with a Kia dealer.
Browse other electric vans, such as the Ford E-Transit, on our new van listings page and compare them on the same price basis.
We have not compared prices with other electric vans here, because a fair comparison needs the same price basis for every model. Kia’s own page is the best place to confirm the latest specifications, and a dealer can confirm current availability.
