Toyota bZ4X posts its best ever Australian sales month with 410 sold in September
Toyota’s bZ4X has recorded its strongest month in Australia, with 410 sales in September 2026 across the regular SUV and the new bZ4X Touring. That is up 412.5 per cent on September 2025, or more than five times the result from a year earlier.
Toyota says the jump follows the upgraded bZ4X that arrived at the end of 2025 with more range, more power and lower prices, plus the addition of the larger Touring grade in mid-2026. Toyota does not publish a split between the two body styles, so the exact share of Touring sales is not known.
bZ4X sales at a glance
| Measure | Figure |
|---|---|
| September 2026 sales | 410 |
| Change on September 2025 | Up 412.5 per cent |
| Sales from January to September 2026 | 2,919, up 331.8 per cent |
| Full-year 2025 sales | About 1,000 |
| Toyota target for 2026 | 5,000 |
| Needed in the final quarter | 2,081, or almost 700 a month |
Toyota Australia sales and marketing chief John Pappas says the bZ4X family is on track for the 5,000 target. He says orders were already rising before fuel prices spiked earlier this year, and that demand has now settled at a level nearly double what it was before the spike, helped by the Touring.
2026 bZ4X prices and range
| Variant | Price before on-road costs | Power | WLTP range | Boot space |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| bZ4X 2WD | $55,990 | 165kW | 591km | 452 litres |
| bZ4X AWD | $67,990 | 252kW | 517km | 452 litres |
| bZ4X Touring | $69,990 | 280kW | 488km | 603 litres |
All three share a 74.7kWh battery, 150kW DC charging and 22kW three-phase AC charging. The Touring is 140mm longer behind the rear axle, sits higher, and adds 20-inch black alloys, skid plates, roof rails and a rear wiper. Its two 167kW motors combine for 280kW, enough for a claimed 4.4 second 0 to 100km/h time, which makes it the most powerful Toyota passenger SUV on sale.
Offers and ownership
Toyota has backed the bZ4X with finance and novated lease offers through 2026, including up to $6,800 off the AWD through approved novated lease providers. These deals have applied to the 2WD and AWD rather than the Touring, and terms change often, so check current offers with your dealer. Private buyers of a 2WD or AWD bought by 31 December 2026 can also choose a free 7kW home charger, excluding installation, or 12 months of public charging capped at 625kWh through Toyota’s loyalty program. The battery is covered for up to 10 years with unlimited kilometres when serviced on schedule at a Toyota dealer.
Still a long way behind the leaders
The record result keeps the bZ4X well behind the best-selling electric cars. In September, the Tesla Model Y recorded 4,476 deliveries, the BYD Sealion 7 sold 2,687, the Geely EX5 2,008 and the Zeekr 7X 1,628. Electric cars took 24.2 per cent of the new-car market in September, and our September 2026 new car sales wrap covers the wider trend.
For Toyota, though, the result shows its first electric car is finally finding buyers. Stock is also improving across the brand, as our report on shorter Toyota wait times explains.
