The short answer. Toyota Prado circular headlights are now available as an official retrofit in Japan through the Toyota Upgrade Factory, priced at 204,600 yen including tax and fitting. The kit is for Japanese-market Land Cruiser 250 VX models built from April 2024. Toyota Australia has not announced the kit for Australian Prados, so local owners cannot order it through a dealer at this stage.
Toyota Prado circular headlights have been a talking point since the current model was revealed with both square and round lamp designs. On 21 October 2026, Toyota's Japanese aftercare service, Toyota Upgrade Factory, started offering a factory-engineered conversion that swaps the square headlights for round units after the car has been delivered.
The Prado is sold in Japan as the Land Cruiser 250. It is the same generation as the Prado sold here since late 2024, but Japanese and Australian specifications are not identical, which matters for whether the kit could ever be fitted locally.
How the Toyota Prado circular headlights retrofit works in Japan
The conversion is called Headlamp Design Customise (Round) and is operated by KINTO on behalf of Toyota. According to Toyota's Japanese release, the work is done only at authorised Toyota dealers because it involves removing the front bumper and writing new software to the vehicle's ECU.

Owners can apply whether they own the car outright or have it on a subscription. Toyota Japan also launched a retrofit Gen5 wireless phone charger for some Land Cruiser 250 VX models at the same time, priced at 28,600 yen fitted.
The warranty has been reported as three years or 60,000 km, with roughly a month to secure a booking and between half a day and a full day for fitting. Toyota's Japanese release confirms a manufacturer warranty but those specific terms should be treated as reported until confirmed by Toyota.
Is the round headlight kit coming to Australia
Not at this stage. Toyota Australia has not announced the conversion, and there is no Australian part number, price or dealer process for it.
When the current Prado launched here in late 2024, Toyota Australia said it had no plan at that time to offer the round headlights locally, while also indicating it would leave the door open. Nothing announced since has changed that position.
There are practical hurdles. Headlights are a safety-critical, regulated component, and any conversion would need to suit Australian-specification vehicles and their lighting and driver assist calibration. The Japanese VX is not the same specification as the Australian VX, so it should not be assumed that the Japanese kit would fit an Australian car.
Fitting grey-imported lamps or an unapproved retrofit could affect your new car warranty, roadworthiness and insurance. Talk to a Toyota dealer and your insurer before modifying the lights on your Prado.

How popular is the Prado in Australia
The Prado remains one of Toyota's strongest sellers. FCAI VFACTS figures show 2006 Prados were sold in September 2026, enough for eighth place on the national top 10 model list.
Supply has also improved. Toyota Australia recently said wait times for many popular models had shortened, which we covered in our report on Toyota wait times for the RAV4, HiLux, Prado and LandCruiser.
Owners of older diesel Prados should also check whether they are affected by the Toyota $750 million DPF class action settlement, which still needs court approval.
