Ford F-150 recall covers 3,745 pickups in Australia over fuel tank strap fire risk

Ford Australia has recalled 3,745 examples of the Ford F-150 full-size pickup because a fuel tank strap may not be properly secured. The recall was published on the Australian Government’s official vehicle recall listing on 16 October 2026 under recall number REC-006747.

The affected pickups come from the 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026 model years. Not every F-150 from those years is included, so owners need to check their vehicle identification number against the official list.

The recall covers selected F-150 pickups from the 2023 to 2026 model years.

What is the problem

According to the recall notice, a fuel tank retaining strap may not have been adequately secured to the frame rail during manufacture. If the strap detaches while the vehicle is being driven, fuel could leak from the tank.

In the presence of an ignition source, leaking fuel could start a fire. That increases the risk of injury or death to people in the vehicle and other road users, as well as damage to property. The notice does not report any local fires or injuries linked to this fault.

What owners should do

Ford will write to affected owners and ask them to book their F-150 in with an authorised Ford dealer, where the strap will be inspected and repaired free of charge. You can check your 17-character VIN against the list attached to the official recall notice, or call the Ford Customer Relationship Centre on 13 36 73.

If you have bought an F-150 second-hand, make sure your contact details are up to date with Ford so the recall letter reaches you. Until the repair is done, stop and get the vehicle checked if you notice a fuel smell or see fuel under the car.
