New GWM Haval H7 hybrid and PHEV arrives under $50,000 drive-away, with deliveries due within two weeks

The first shipments of the all-new GWM Haval H7 have arrived in Australia, and GWM expects customer deliveries to begin within the next two weeks. The boxy medium SUV replaces the front-drive H7 that launched in 2025 and brings standard all-wheel drive to the nameplate for the first time.

GWM Australia says more than 1500 expressions of interest were recorded in just over three weeks after the H7's Sydney debut, faster than any previous new GWM model. We first covered the H7's plans in our Haval H7 October preview.

Price and grades

GWM has confirmed the range will start below $50,000 drive-away for the hybrid. Full pricing and equipment lists are yet to be announced, and the PHEV is expected to sit between $50,000 and $60,000 drive-away.

For context, the outgoing front-drive H7 Vanta Hybrid was priced at $46,990 drive-away.

Hybrid and PHEV powertrains

Both versions use GWM's Hi4 system, which places an electric motor on each axle for all-wheel drive. The self-charging hybrid produces 182kW. The plug-in hybrid lifts that to 320kW and 670Nm, enough for a claimed 0 to 100km/h time of 4.9 seconds.

The PHEV offers up to 137km of electric-only driving and up to 844km of combined range on the WLTC cycle, along with 6kW vehicle-to-load capability for powering devices.

Built for rougher roads

Every new H7 gets a rear differential lock and eight drive modes, giving it more off-road ability than the road-focused GWM Haval H6. The H7 will sit alongside the H6 and Haval H6GT in GWM's medium SUV range.

Rivals

The H7 PHEV's expected pricing would undercut the Toyota RAV4 plug-in hybrid, while its rugged look and AWD put it up against other boxy family SUVs. Final pricing, grade equipment and fuel use figures are expected to be confirmed before the first deliveries.
