MG ZS Hybrid+ falls to $29,990 drive-away in October, and which builds get five stars from ANCAP

MG Australia’s offers page lists the MG ZS Excite HYBRID+ at $29,990 drive away, down from the usual $30,990, with a $1,000 cashback badge on the card. The offer ends on 31 October 2026. It is for cars sold and delivered between 1 and 31 October at participating MG dealers, while stocks last.

The ZS also has a split safety story. ANCAP rates the small SUV five stars, but only for petrol and hybrid cars built from 4 December 2025. Earlier hybrids carry four stars, so the build date matters as much as the price.

MG says drive away prices include 12 months of registration and compulsory third party insurance, the maximum dealer delivery charge and estimated stamp duty. Cashback is taken off the purchase price at the point of sale, is not available to fleet, government or rental buyers and cannot be combined with other offers. MG can change or withdraw the offer, so confirm the final quote with your dealer.

Which MG ZS builds have five stars

ANCAP first rated the ZS hybrid four stars in December 2024. MG then added a centre airbag, which reduces injuries between front occupants in a far-side crash. ANCAP’s December 2025 update lifted the adult occupant score to 81 per cent and the rating to five stars for petrol and hybrid ZS vehicles built from 4 December 2025, from VIN LSJWS4395TZ074065 onwards.

ANCAP’s five-star page says the rating applies to all variants of the newer build. Its earlier four-star page covers the hybrid variants only. Autonomous emergency braking, lane support and speed assistance are standard on both.

How to check the build date before you buy

Ask the dealer to confirm the build date and the VIN of the exact car you are buying, and get it in writing. The VIN must be LSJWS4395TZ074065 or later to be covered by the five-star rating. The build date is also printed on the compliance plate. A price that looks like a bargain is only a bargain if the safety rating matches what you expect.

MG’s fuel figure is a laboratory result and real world use will differ. The hybrid has no plug and recharges itself while you drive. MG fits seven airbags and says the ZS comes with up to 10 years or 250,000 km of warranty when serviced with MG, made up of 7 years unlimited plus a 3 year extension. Our guide to the MG 10 year warranty explains the rules.

Excite or Essence HYBRID+

Both hybrid grades use the same 158 kW system and front-wheel drive. The Excite HYBRID+ rides on 17 inch alloy wheels with fabric seats and a 360 degree camera. The Essence HYBRID+ steps up to 18 inch alloys, PVC seat trim and a panoramic sunroof. That makes the Excite the value pick at $29,990 drive away, while the Essence costs $3,500 more at $33,490 drive away in October.

The hybrid needs no plug, so the ZS suits buyers who want lower fuel use without home charging. Before you sign, ask the dealer which cars on the floor are covered by the October offer and which build date each one carries.

Buying tips

Compare the ZS with other small SUVs on the same drive away basis, because list prices and drive away prices are not the same thing.
