Tesla Model Y price in Australia 2026

The Tesla Model Y has become one of the most popular new cars in Australia, and the range is now bigger than ever. There are four versions to choose from: the Premium Rear-Wheel Drive, the Premium Long Range All-Wheel Drive, the six seat Model Y L and the Model Y Performance.

This guide sets out the price of every current Model Y grade, what Tesla says it costs on the road, the official range and charging figures, the key specs, the rivals worth cross shopping and what it costs to run. Specifications were checked on Tesla Australia's website and running costs on the Australian Government's Green Vehicle Guide on 20 October 2026.

A note on sources: Tesla shows prices in its online order page, which blocked our automated check. The list prices above match the Australian price data we checked and AussieMotor's own Tesla pages, but confirm the final price in Tesla's configurator before you order. Optional paint, wheels and Full Self-Driving (Supervised) can add to the price.

The Performance price fell from $89,400 to $84,900 with the 2027 model year update. Our story on the 2027 Model Y Performance price has the details.

Tesla Model Y drive away price

Tesla's public Model Y page gives one drive away figure: $91,415 for the Model Y Performance, used in its novated lease example for a car registered in New South Wales. Tesla says that estimate includes all on-road costs. Against the $84,900 list price, that is about $6,515 in on-road costs.

Tesla does not show drive away prices for the other three grades on its public model page. Its configurator calculates an estimated drive away price for your postcode, so use it to get the figure for your state. Unverified: we could not read drive away prices for the Premium RWD, Premium Long Range AWD or Model Y L directly from Tesla.

Our guide to on-road costs and drive away pricing explains how the gap between list and drive away price is made up.

Model Y Premium Rear-Wheel Drive: the entry point

The Premium Rear-Wheel Drive is the cheapest Model Y at $58,900 before on-road costs. Tesla quotes a WLTP range of 466 km and 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds.

Tesla Model Y • L Long Range All-Wheel Drive • Variant

1 / 10

It uses a single motor driving the rear wheels and Supercharges at up to 175 kW, adding up to 238 km of range in 15 minutes according to Tesla. It weighs 1,921 kg. The battery and drive unit warranty is 8 years or 160,000 km, a shorter distance than the other grades.

Suits: buyers who mostly drive around town and want the full Model Y cabin and technology for the lowest price.

Watch for: the shortest range and slowest charging in the range. If you drive long distances often, the Long Range is worth the extra $10,000.

Model Y Premium Long Range All-Wheel Drive: the best all rounder

The Premium Long Range AWD costs $68,900 before on-road costs. It adds a second motor for all wheel drive and gives the longest range of any five seat Model Y.

Tesla quotes a WLTP range of 600 km, 0 to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds and Supercharging at up to 250 kW, adding up to 266 km in 15 minutes. It weighs 1,992 kg and rides on 19 or 20 inch wheels. The battery and drive unit warranty is 8 years or 192,000 km.

Suits: families who do regular highway trips and want AWD grip and strong acceleration without the Performance price.

Watch for: it costs $10,000 more than the RWD, so be sure you will use the extra range.

Model Y L Premium All-Wheel Drive: the six seater

The Model Y L costs $74,900 before on-road costs. It is longer than the regular Model Y and has three rows with six seats.

Tesla quotes the longest range of any Model Y at 681 km WLTP, 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds and Supercharging at up to 250 kW, adding up to 288 km in 15 minutes. It is 4,969 mm long and 1,668 mm high, and cargo space is up to 2,539 litres. The second row has captain's chairs with heating and ventilation, and Tesla says the third row has power recline and one touch folding. It weighs 2,088 kg.

Suits: families who need six seats and want the longest range Tesla sells.

Watch for: Tesla's own page notes the car shown is an overseas model, so check the Australian specification in the configurator.

Model Y Performance: the fastest Model Y

The Model Y Performance costs $84,900 before on-road costs and is the quickest Model Y, with Tesla quoting 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds.

It has a 580 km WLTP range, adaptive suspension, 21 inch wheels, heated and ventilated front sport seats, carbon fibre trim and a carbon rear spoiler. It Supercharges at up to 250 kW, adding up to 243 km in 15 minutes. Ground clearance is 151 mm, lower than the other grades, and it weighs 2,033 kg.

Suits: buyers who want sports car acceleration in a family SUV.

Watch for: the lower ride and 21 inch wheels. Check the configurator for the cost of optional paint and other extras.

Source: Tesla Australia Model Y page, checked 20 October 2026. Every Model Y has a 16 inch centre touchscreen and an 8 inch rear touchscreen. The five seat models are 4,792 mm long (4,796 mm for the Performance), and every grade is 1,982 mm wide with the mirrors folded.

Charging the Model Y

Every Model Y can use Tesla's Supercharger network on a pay per use basis. The RWD charges at up to 175 kW and the three AWD versions at up to 250 kW.

Tesla says its range added in 15 minutes figures are based on a constant 100 km/h motorway speed. Real charging speed depends on the charger, the battery temperature, the state of charge and the weather.

At home, most owners charge overnight on a wall charger. Tesla also lists vehicle to load capability for the Model Y, which lets you power appliances from the battery using a Tesla Outlet Adapter that is sold separately.

Tesla Model Y running costs

The Australian Government's Green Vehicle Guide lists official energy use for the 2026 Model Y. It also estimates a yearly energy cost at 14,000 km using average residential electricity prices.

Model Y version (Green Vehicle Guide listing)

Official energy use

Government estimate, 14,000 km a year

Our example, 11,100 km at 30 cents per kWh

Model Y L, six seats (681 km)

144 Wh/km

About $480

Model Y AWD, five seats (600 km)

155 Wh/km

$781

About $516

Model Y Performance (580 km)

161 Wh/km

$811

About $536

Our example uses 11,100 km a year, close to the Australian average, and 30 cents per kWh for home charging. That price is a round example, not a quote, and public fast charging usually costs more per kWh. Unverified: we could not match a 2026 Green Vehicle Guide listing to the 466 km Premium RWD, so we have not shown an official energy figure for it.

Servicing (unverified): we did not confirm Tesla's current service recommendations or costs. Check Tesla's ownership pages before you buy.

Warranty: Tesla's basic vehicle warranty for new Model Y cars delivered from 1 January 2026 is five years with unlimited kilometres. The battery and drive unit warranty is 8 years or 160,000 km for the RWD and 8 years or 192,000 km for the AWD versions.

Luxury car tax and the Model Y

Electric cars count as fuel efficient for luxury car tax, because the Australian Taxation Office defines a fuel efficient car as one using no more than 3.5 litres per 100 km. The 2026-27 LCT threshold for fuel efficient cars is $91,661. Every Model Y list price is below that, so no luxury car tax applies to a standard car. If you add enough options to push the car's LCT value over $91,661, LCT is charged at 33 per cent on the amount above the threshold, excluding GST.

  • Best for most buyers: the Premium Long Range AWD gives 600 km of range and AWD for $10,000 more.

  • Six seats: the Model Y L has the longest range of all at 681 km.

  • Fastest: the Performance, at $84,900 or $91,415 drive away in New South Wales on Tesla's figure.

The bottom line
