Honda Super-One EV sells out its first 500-car Australian allocation at $36,900 drive-away

Honda Australia is negotiating with Japan for more Super-One electric cars after demand for the retro city hatch outstripped supply. The first allocation of 500 cars, covering deliveries through to October 2027, has sold out in Boost Violet Pearl, and the two other colours are running low.

Honda logged almost 7000 expressions of interest after showing the Super-One, the strongest early response in the company's local history. The 130 or so cars earmarked for 2026 sold out within hours of pre-orders opening in August, and first customer deliveries began on 1 October.

Price

VariantDrive-away price
Super-One$36,900
Super-One Two-Tone$37,400

The Two-Tone pairs Boost Violet Pearl paint with a Crystal Black roof. Buyers choosing it face the longest wait, with the next allocation for that combination not expected until the second half of 2027. Equipment is otherwise identical, including a 9.0-inch touchscreen, sports seats, Bose premium audio and 15-inch alloys.

Specs and range

The Super-One uses a 29.6kWh battery and a front motor producing 47kW in standard mode, rising to 70kW in Boost mode, with 162Nm of torque. Honda quotes up to 202km of WLTP range.

Charging runs at up to 6.6kW on single-phase AC or 10kW on three-phase AC, and up to 50kW DC, with a 15 to 80 per cent charge taking about 30 minutes.

When will more cars arrive

Honda's next major allocation is expected in early 2027. Longer term, Honda Australia is targeting a steady supply of around 500 Super-Ones a year, with scope to ask the factory for more if demand holds up. Getting extra stock is expected to be difficult, as the car is also proving popular in Japan.

How it compares

At $36,900 drive-away the Super-One is far from the cheapest EV in Australia. The BYD Atto 1 starts from $19,990 drive-away and the MG4 range also undercuts it in larger sizes. Honda is clearly relying on its character and badge, and for now that appears to be working.
