The Essence AWD uses a 77kWh NCM battery with a rear permanent-magnet synchronous motor and a front induction motor. The dual-motor system produces a combined 266kW and 540Nm and drives all four wheels.

MG Australia lists an official combined WLTP range of up to 485km for the Essence AWD. Actual range varies with temperature, speed, traffic, accessories, driving style and vehicle load.

The Essence AWD accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in a claimed 5.1 seconds. Its 266kW dual-motor system makes it the quicker and more powerful MGS6 EV offered in Australia.

MG lists maximum DC charging at 144kW and estimates a 10 to 80 per cent charge in 38 minutes under specified test conditions. An 11kW onboard AC charger is also standard.

The main AWD-specific additions are dual-motor all-wheel drive, substantially stronger performance and a panoramic glass roof with an electric sunshade. It otherwise shares the MGS6 EV’s high level of comfort, infotainment and safety equipment.

The rear boot holds 581 litres and expands to 1,690 litres with the rear seats folded. The AWD also has a 67-litre front storage compartment, which is smaller than the RWD compartment because of the front motor.

Standard equipment includes seven airbags, a 360-degree camera, rear ISOFIX points and MG Pilot driver assistance with functions including autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning and blind-spot monitoring. The MGS6 EV has a five-star ANCAP rating.

MG Australia lists Dover White, Sterling Silver Metallic, Camden Grey Metallic, Black Pearl Metallic, Stratford Gold Metallic, Piccadilly Blue Metallic and Diamond Red Metallic. Metallic colours may cost extra, and availability should be confirmed when ordering.
