BYD lists a $4,000 cashback on Sealion 7, Shark 6, Seal 6 and more

BYD Australia is offering $4,000 cashback including GST on a named list of variants, not on every model. Orders run from 1 October 2026 to 21 December 2026, with delivery by 31 December 2026. The offer ends on 21 December 2026. This is cashback, not a national drive-away price and not the 0.99 per cent a year comparison-rate finance beside it.

The $4,000 covers the headline models only in named grades. Both listed BYD Sealion 7 grades qualify, as do all three BYD Shark 6 grades and both listed BYD Seal 6 grades. Named Sealion 5, Sealion 6 and Sealion 8 grades get the same amount. Atto, Dolphin and the battery-electric Seal are on different offers.

Cashback rules buyers need

The terms state $4,000 including GST. No price after that payment is published, and no earlier comparable price is shown, so the basis stays cashback.

It is for retail customers who order in the window and take delivery by 31 December 2026. Fleet customers, demonstrators, service-loan vehicles, and any deal that uses another promotion or discount are excluded, so the cashback and the cheap finance rate do not stack. If a car ordered in time cannot be delivered by 31 December 2026, BYD Australia may approve a longer delivery period. That extension is not automatic.

Which variants are on the $4,000 list

The Shark 6 offer card says Dynamic Cab Chassis. The terms say Shark 6 Cab Chassis. They point at the same cab-chassis grade. Match the name on the contract.

Where finance is offered, the term is 36 months, with no minimum deposit and no balloon. Approval is due by 21 December 2026 and settlement by 31 December 2026, through BYD Financial Services under Australian Credit Licence 483211. Government, fleet and rental buyers are excluded. The comparison rate is based on a $30,000 loan over five years, not this 36-month campaign, and it excludes a dealer fee of up to $1,495 including GST. One warning sentence names only the Shark 6, while the model list and the other cards are wider, so confirm the product in writing if you are buying a different model.

Sealion 7 and the deals that are not $4,000

Sealion 7 Premium and Performance take the cashback, not the 0.99 per cent rate. They sit instead on a 6 per cent novated-lease discount, with selected Atto 1, Atto 2, Atto 3 and Dolphin models. It applies to the base list price only and excludes registration, CTP, stamp duty, dealer delivery and statutory charges. Orders close on 21 December 2026, but delivery runs to 31 January 2027. It is for novated-lease clients and is not described as stackable with the cashback.

Three other figures are promotional drive-away prices, not cashback. Atto 1 Essential is $19,990 and Dolphin Essential is $28,888, ordered from 15 September 2026 to 15 December 2026 and delivered by 31 December 2026. Atto 2 DM-i Essential is $25,990, ordered from 24 September 2026 to 24 December 2026 and delivered by 31 December 2026. Metallic paint is extra. Do not line those drive-away prices up against a $4,000 cashback.

The cars under the offer

Test cycles differ by grade, so these rows are not a ranking. The low fuel figures assume the state of charge BYD names. Warranty is six years or 150,000 km for the vehicle and eight years or 160,000 km for the traction battery, whichever comes first.

Grade

Official figure and test basis

Seal 6 Essential

Plug-in hybrid, front-wheel drive, 130 kW, 8.9 seconds, 70 km electric range NEDC, 1.1 L/100 km NEDC with sufficient charge

Seal 6 Touring Premium

Plug-in hybrid estate, 163 kW and 260 Nm, 8.1 seconds, 125 km electric range NEDC, 0.8 L/100 km NEDC with sufficient charge, boot 670 litres to 1,535 litres

Sealion 5 Essential / Premium

Both 156 kW plug-in hybrid. Essential 7.7 seconds and 1,001 km NEDC. Premium 8.1 seconds and up to 1,030 km NEDC, with fuel use as low as 1.2 L/100 km NEDC

Sealion 6 Essential / Dynamic Extended

Both 160 kW front-wheel drive. Essential 8.5 seconds, 1.1 L/100 km ADR 81/02, 92 km electric from 25 to 100 per cent charge. Dynamic Extended 8.9 seconds, 0.8 L/100 km ADR 81/02, 140 km from 20 to 100 per cent

Sealion 6 Premium Extended

253 kW all-wheel drive, 5.5 seconds, 1.1 L/100 km ADR 81/02, 128 km electric from 20 to 100 per cent. A separate sentence still says 238 kW and 5.9 seconds, so match the contract to the specification table

Sealion 7 Premium / Performance

Premium 230 kW, 6.7 seconds, 482 km WLTP. Performance 390 kW, 4.5 seconds, 456 km WLTP, with 150 kW DC charging listed

Sealion 8 Dynamic FWD

205 kW plug-in hybrid, 8.6 seconds, 103 km electric range NEDC

Sealion 8 Dynamic AWD and Premium AWD

359 kW, 4.9 seconds, 152 km electric range NEDC. The page also quotes 675 Nm and 1.0 L/100 km NEDC with sufficient charge for the performance hybrid

Shark 6 Dynamic Cab Chassis and Premium

321 kW and 650 Nm, 5.7 seconds, 2,500 kg braked towing, 2 L/100 km ADR 81/02, 800 km combined NEDC

Shark 6 Performance

350 kW and 700 Nm, 5.5 seconds, 3,500 kg braked towing, 1.3 L/100 km WLTP, 640 km WLTP

The Sealion 5 and Sealion 6 comparison covers differences a shared cashback does not close. See also running a plug-in hybrid without regular charging, because the lowest litre figures assume charge in the battery.

Which December date applies

Cashback and 0.99 per cent finance orders close on 21 December 2026. Delivery is due by 31 December 2026 unless an extension is approved, and finance must be approved by 21 December and settled by 31 December. The novated discount allows Sealion 7 delivery until 31 January 2027. Atto 1 and Dolphin drive-away offers end on 15 December 2026, and the Atto 2 DM-i drive-away ends on 24 December 2026. The $4,000 is real for the grades in the table. It is not a discount on every BYD.
