The Chery Tiggo 9 Super Hybrid is Chery Australia’s flagship seven-seat large SUV, combining plug-in hybrid flexibility with a premium family-focused cabin and a choice of Elite FWD and Ultimate AWD grades. For Australian buyers, its key attractions include a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol hybrid system, a 19kWh battery with up to 90km of NEDC electric range in the Elite FWD or a 34kWh battery with up to 170km in the Ultimate AWD, while the higher-grade model also delivers up to 315kW and 580Nm and adds all-wheel drive for stronger performance and broader touring capability. Beyond the drivetrain, the Tiggo 9 Super Hybrid brings seven-seat practicality, a 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen, a 10.25-inch driver display, a panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera technology, extensive driver-assistance features and generous comfort equipment, making it a compelling option for families comparing electrified large SUVs in Australia; buyers should still consider that the advertised electric-range and fuel-consumption figures are laboratory-based NEDC results, that 95 RON premium unleaded is recommended, and that some of the most desirable equipment—including AWD, 20-inch wheels, head-up display, upgraded seat ventilation and automatic parking—is reserved for the Ultimate AWD.

The Chery Tiggo 9 Super Hybrid sits at the top of Chery Australia’s SUV range as a seven-seat large plug-in hybrid designed for families who want electric-capable daily driving without giving up the convenience of a petrol engine for longer trips. The Australian range consists of Elite FWD and Ultimate AWD grades, both using a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a dedicated hybrid transmission and permanent-magnet electric motors. The two grades are deliberately differentiated: the Elite focuses on value and front-wheel-drive efficiency, while the Ultimate adds a larger battery, an additional rear motor and all-wheel drive for substantially stronger combined performance.
Official Australian specifications list a 19kWh battery for the Elite FWD and a 34kWh battery for the Ultimate AWD. Chery quotes NEDC electric ranges of up to 90km and 170km respectively, giving many owners the potential to complete shorter urban trips predominantly on electric power when the vehicle is regularly charged. Combined system outputs are 225kW and 450Nm for the Elite and 315kW and 580Nm for the Ultimate. The Ultimate also carries a claimed combined range of up to 1,250km under the applicable test conditions. Fuel consumption is listed at 1.5L/100km for the Elite and 1.4L/100km for the Ultimate under ADR 81/02 NEDC testing, although real-world results will vary with battery charge, driving conditions, climate, load and driving style.
Charging capability also differs by grade. Both models support Type 2 AC charging at up to 6.6kW, while the Elite supports DC charging at up to 41kW and the Ultimate at up to 71kW. An EV trickle-charging cable is included according to Chery’s Australian specification sheet. This plug-in capability makes the Tiggo 9 Super Hybrid most appealing to buyers who can charge at home or regularly at work, because frequent charging allows the vehicle to make greater use of its electric range. Regenerative braking offers three levels, and both grades provide EV and HEV energy modes.
Family practicality is a major part of the package. The Tiggo 9 Super Hybrid measures 4,800mm long, 1,930mm wide and 1,730mm high on a 2,750mm wheelbase, and both grades provide seven seats. The cabin includes a 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen, 10.25-inch digital driver display, wired and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, built-in navigation, intelligent voice control and a 50W wireless phone charger. Heated front seats, powered front seating, a panoramic sunroof, second- and third-row air vents, a power tailgate and a 360-degree around-view monitor are also included. The Ultimate lifts the luxury level with leather upholstery, a head-up display, 20-inch wheels, heated and ventilated front and second-row outboard seats, a heated steering wheel, passenger-seat massage and automatic parking assistance.
Safety equipment is extensive across both grades, with autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning and prevention, blind-spot detection, lane-change assist, rear cross-traffic alert and braking, driver monitoring, front and rear parking sensors and multiple airbags. The Ultimate adds side parking sensors and automatic parking assistance. Chery lists a maximum braked towing capacity of 1,500kg for both versions, which is useful for lighter trailers but may be limiting for buyers expecting the towing ability of some traditional large SUVs.
For Australian buyers, the Tiggo 9 Super Hybrid’s strongest case is its combination of seven-seat space, long claimed electric range in the Ultimate, strong equipment levels and the flexibility of a plug-in hybrid drivetrain. Its official colour range comprises Aurora Green, Star White, Technical Grey, Cosmic Black and Mercurial Grey in matte finish, with the matte Mercurial Grey restricted to the Ultimate AWD and premium or matte finishes attracting an additional cost. Buyers should compare the two grades carefully: the Elite offers most of the core technology at a lower level of complexity, while the Ultimate is the better fit for those who specifically want AWD, the larger battery, maximum performance and the most luxurious cabin specification.
