2026 Chery Tiggo 9 Price in Australia

The Chery Tiggo 9 is Chery Australia’s flagship large SUV, sold locally as the Tiggo 9 Super Hybrid. It is designed for families and long-distance buyers who want three rows of seating but also want to complete a meaningful share of daily driving on electricity. The Australian range includes an Elite front-wheel-drive version and an Ultimate all-wheel-drive version, with the latter adding more performance, a larger battery and additional premium equipment.

Both grades use Chery’s plug-in Super Hybrid architecture around a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine and electric drive. Chery lists a 19kWh battery and up to 90km of NEDC electric range for the Elite FWD, while the Ultimate AWD increases battery capacity to 34kWh and extends the quoted NEDC electric range to 170km. The Ultimate AWD is rated at up to 315kW and 580Nm, giving it performance figures more commonly associated with much more expensive large SUVs. Chery quotes combined fuel consumption of 1.5L/100km for the Elite and 1.4L/100km for the Ultimate under the applicable test conditions.

Because it is a plug-in hybrid, the Tiggo 9 can be charged externally and also recovers energy through regenerative braking and hybrid operation. That flexibility is one of its main attractions for Australian conditions: commuters with regular charging access can use electric driving for many daily journeys, while the petrol engine remains available for regional travel or long interstate trips. Buyers should remember that advertised plug-in hybrid fuel figures assume a charged battery and prescribed test conditions, so real-world consumption can be higher when the vehicle is driven for long periods without plugging in.

The cabin is configured for seven seats and places a strong emphasis on comfort and technology. Standard and available equipment across the range includes a 10.25-inch driver display, 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 50W wireless phone charging, Chery voice commands, a panoramic sunroof, power tailgate and surround-view camera. The Ultimate AWD adds items including automatic parking assistance, leather upholstery, a head-up display, 20-inch wheels, a heated steering wheel, extra Sony speakers and heated and ventilated seating for the front and outboard rear positions.

Safety is another important part of the Tiggo 9 package. Chery lists ten airbags and a wide range of active driver-assistance technologies. The company also highlights a body structure using extensive high-strength steel and modern braking hardware. As with any advanced assistance system, features such as automatic parking, lane support and emergency braking are aids rather than substitutes for the driver. Families should still test the third-row access, child-seat arrangement and luggage space with all seats in use to ensure the vehicle suits their specific needs.

In the Australian market, the Tiggo 9 Super Hybrid stands out for combining a seven-seat layout, long electric range in Ultimate AWD form, strong performance and a high level of equipment. The trade-offs are its large physical footprint, the need for regular charging to maximise the PHEV advantage, and the fact that several headline specifications apply only to the more expensive Ultimate AWD. Buyers who can charge at home and want an electrified large SUV with petrol backup are likely to get the most from the Tiggo 9.
