XPENG New G6 is the company’s core electric SUV for Australia and is positioned as a high-technology alternative to established medium EVs. The current range is split into three clear versions: RWD Standard Range, RWD Long Range and AWD Performance. All share the same five-seat coupe-SUV body, a full-domain 800-volt electrical platform and a cabin built around large digital displays, connected services and XPILOT driver assistance.

The RWD Standard Range uses a rear-mounted 185 kW electric motor producing 440 Nm. Its 68.5 kWh gross LFP battery delivers 480 km WLTP on standard 18-inch wheels or about 470 km with the optional 20-inch wheel package. Acceleration from 0–100 km/h takes 6.94 seconds. The RWD Long Range increases power to 218 kW while retaining 440 Nm, uses a larger 80.8 kWh LFP battery and extends official range to 525 km WLTP, with 0–100 km/h in 6.7 seconds.

At the top of the family, AWD Performance adds a front motor for dual-motor all-wheel drive. Total output rises to 358 kW and 660 Nm, enabling 0–100 km/h in 4.13 seconds while still delivering 510 km WLTP range. All variants have a top speed of approximately 202 km/h. Drive modes include Eco, Comfort, Sport and Individual, allowing drivers to tune response and steering behaviour.

Charging performance is one of the New G6’s strongest selling points. Standard Range supports up to 382 kW DC charging, while Long Range and AWD Performance can accept up to 451 kW. XPENG quotes 10–80 percent in 12 minutes under suitable conditions. AC charging is rated at 11 kW, with the Standard Range taking around 7.3 hours from 5–100 percent and the 80.8 kWh versions around 9.2 hours. Vehicle-to-load functionality is standard and can supply power to compatible external equipment.

Practicality is competitive with mainstream family SUVs. XPENG lists a 571-litre boot with the rear seats in place and up to 1,374 litres when folded. The turning radius is 5.8 metres and payload ranges from about 470 to 475 kg depending on variant. The chassis uses front double-wishbone suspension and a five-link independent rear arrangement, giving the G6 more sophisticated geometry than many price rivals.

The cabin includes a 10.25-inch digital driver display and a 15.6-inch central touchscreen. Bluetooth phone key, UWB smart remote, NFC card key, smart navigation, app store access, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, OTA updates and XPENG voice control are integrated into the platform. Premium seating and Black Edition packages are available depending on version, while higher trims gain additional driver-assistance functionality.

XPILOT includes adaptive cruise control, lane centring, traffic-sign recognition, autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep support, rear cross-traffic alert, driver-state monitoring and advanced parking functions. Seven airbags, tyre-pressure monitoring, e-call and ISOFIX are also standard. Official Australian paint choices are Arctic White, Stellar Purple, Silver Frost, Graphite Gray and Midnight Black. For Australian EV buyers, the G6’s biggest strengths are charging speed, value and range, while its disadvantages are a touchscreen-focused control layout and a local dealer network that is still smaller than those of long-established brands.
