2026 Jaecoo J5 Price in Australia

The Jaecoo J5 petrol is the conventional combustion-engine version of Jaecoo's compact SUV family in Australia. Positioned below the larger J7, it is designed for urban families and lifestyle buyers who want SUV practicality without moving into a larger or more expensive vehicle. The Australian petrol range is offered in Track and Summit grades, allowing buyers to choose between a value-focused entry specification and a more generously equipped version.

Both grades use the same 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine. Jaecoo Australia lists maximum power of 108kW and torque of 210Nm, with a continuously variable transmission sending power to the front wheels. Three selectable drive modes—Eco, Normal and Sport—allow the driver to adjust the vehicle's response. Official ADR 81/02 combined fuel consumption is 7.5L/100km, with 9.8L/100km listed for the urban cycle and 6.2L/100km for extra-urban driving. The fuel tank holds 51 litres and regular 91 RON unleaded petrol is recommended.

The J5 is designed to make useful space from a compact footprint. Jaecoo lists 480 litres of luggage capacity behind the rear seats and 1,284 litres when the rear seats are folded. The cabin also incorporates practical storage areas for phones, drinks and smaller everyday items. Summit models add Jaecoo's pet-friendly seat material, which is promoted for scratch resistance, antibacterial performance, easy maintenance and soft-touch comfort.

Technology is centred around a large 13.2-inch infotainment touchscreen used for media, vehicle settings and climate functions. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity help integrate compatible smartphones. Equipment varies between Track and Summit, so buyers comparing the two should check whether comfort features they value are standard on the selected grade rather than assuming every feature is shared.

Safety is an important part of the Australian J5 package. Jaecoo lists seven airbags and active systems including autonomous emergency braking, emergency lane keeping, adaptive cruise control and forward collision warning. The independent MacPherson-strut front and multi-link rear suspension arrangement is more sophisticated than the basic rear suspension used by some budget-focused compact SUVs, although ride and handling preferences remain subjective and are worth assessing on a test drive.

For Australian buyers, the petrol J5 makes sense as a straightforward compact SUV with no charging requirement and a strong equipment-to-price proposition. Its 108kW engine is designed for everyday use rather than high performance, and the CVT and front-wheel-drive layout may not appeal to drivers seeking a sportier or off-road-oriented experience. Jaecoo now offers petrol, EV and hybrid J5 powertrains in Australia, so buyers can choose the energy type that best fits their travel and charging circumstances.
