Fiat Ducato is the largest conventional van in the Fiat Professional range sold in Australia and is designed primarily for businesses that need serious cubic capacity, long load floors and high payload without stepping into a light truck. The current MY26 Series 2 lineup comprises Medium Wheelbase Mid Roof, Long Wheelbase Mid Roof and Extra-Long Wheelbase Mid Roof versions. This gives operators three distinct cargo-body choices while keeping the same basic powertrain and front-drive layout across the range.

Power comes from a 2.2-litre MultiJet turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine producing 132 kW at 3,500 rpm and 450 Nm at 1,500 rpm. It is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. The engine uses electronically controlled common-rail direct injection, a variable-geometry turbocharger and intercooling. A 90-litre fuel tank supports long-distance commercial use, while stop-start technology helps reduce unnecessary fuel use in urban operation.

Capacity is where Ducato earns its place in the Australian van market. The MWB model measures 5,413 mm long and offers 11.5 cubic metres of load volume with a 1,430 kg payload. The LWB stretches to 5,998 mm and provides 13.0 cubic metres with a payload of up to 2,075 kg, while the XLWB measures 6,363 mm long and offers 15.0 cubic metres with a payload of 2,030 kg. A sliding window in the bulkhead provides rear visibility, while the high roof shelf and multiple dashboard storage areas help keep paperwork, devices and small tools organised inside the cab.

Technology is substantially more car-like than older commercial vans. A 10-inch Uconnect touchscreen provides satellite navigation, Bluetooth, DAB radio, wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto. Automatic climate control, cruise control, keyless entry and start, electric parking brake and a TechnoLeather-wrapped steering wheel are standard. A Premium Pack is available and can add adaptive cruise control, a larger digital cluster, blind-spot assist, rear cross-traffic alert, 360-degree parking sensors, LED headlights, rain-sensing wipers and a digital rear-view mirror.

Standard safety equipment includes autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane-keep assistance, traffic-sign recognition, intelligent speed assistance, driver-attention assistance, stability control, tyre-pressure monitoring, a reverse camera and rear parking sensors. The braking system uses 300 mm ventilated front discs and 300 mm rear discs, while the suspension combines MacPherson-type front struts with a rigid tubular rear axle and parabolic leaf springs engineered for commercial loads.

Ownership support is a major consideration for fleet buyers. Fiat Professional Australia provides a five-year or 200,000 km warranty, five years of roadside assistance and 12-month/20,000 km service intervals. The official MY26 Australian paint list is intentionally simple: White is standard, with Grey Expedition and Black optional. Compared with rivals such as Ford Transit, Renault Master and Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, the Ducato’s strengths are cargo volume, payload and a strong standard technology package.
