2026 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD Price in Australia

Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD is the heavy-duty member of the Silverado family sold in Australia through GM Specialty Vehicles. It is significantly larger and more capable than the Silverado 1500 and is aimed at buyers who regularly tow heavy trailers, move substantial loads or spend long distances on regional roads. The Australian model is offered in LTZ Premium specification and is remanufactured in right-hand drive for the local market before delivery through the GMSV dealer network.

The key mechanical feature is the 6.6-litre Duramax turbo-diesel V8. GMSV lists output at 350 kW and a substantial 1,322 Nm, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. A two-speed transfer case gives the driver 2WD, Auto, 4WD High and 4WD Low selections, while an automatic rear locking differential, diesel exhaust brake and digital variable steering assist support towing and low-speed control. The 136-litre fuel tank is sized for the long-distance work and touring role expected of a heavy-duty pickup.

Towing capacity is the main reason many Australian buyers will consider the 2500 HD. In NB1 configuration, it can tow up to 4,500 kg braked when fitted with the appropriate 70 mm ball-hitch accessory. When configured in the NB2 category with the available fifth-wheel hitch, GMSV lists a maximum trailer mass of up to 8,000 kg. Payload also rises with the NB2 classification, from 733 kg in the NB1 setup to as much as 1,386 kg in the standard NB2 configuration. Buyers need to understand the relevant registration, licence and towing requirements before selecting the heavier configuration.

The body is enormous by Australian pickup standards. Overall length is 6,387 mm, width is 2,263 mm and height is 2,039 mm. The cargo box provides a 2,089 mm floor length, 1,814 mm maximum width and 1,968 litres of volume. Side bed steps, the CornerStep bumper and a powered up-and-down tailgate make the bed easier to access, while the high towing mirrors can extend and fold electrically for trailer use.

Although it is a work-focused truck, the LTZ Premium cabin is well equipped. A 13.4-inch infotainment touchscreen and 12.3-inch driver display are standard, together with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless phone charging, Bose audio, dual-zone climate control, leather-appointed seating and rear air vents. Both front seats have 10-way power adjustment; the front seats are heated and ventilated, while rear outboard seats are heated. A sunroof, heated steering wheel and power sliding rear window further increase comfort on long trips.

Safety and towing technology are extensive. The truck includes a rear-view camera with hitch guidance, in-vehicle trailering app, trailer profiles, trailer theft alert, integrated trailer brake controller and automated trailer-lighting test. Z71 suspension tuning, Rancho twin-tube shocks, skid plates, hill-descent control, stability control and traction control support rough-road and off-road use. Four-wheel disc brakes and a diesel exhaust brake provide additional control when descending with a load.

For Australian buyers comparing Ram 2500 and other converted heavy-duty US pickups, the Silverado 2500 HD is compelling because of its huge diesel torque, factory-backed GMSV support and 8-tonne fifth-wheel capability in NB2 form. The trade-offs are its sheer size, fuel use, turning requirements and high tyre, registration and servicing costs. It is overkill for normal suburban driving, but for buyers with genuinely heavy towing or payload needs it delivers capabilities that ordinary one-tonne utes cannot match.
