2026 Chery C5 Hybrid Price in Australia

The Chery C5 Hybrid expands the C5 range in Australia with a self-charging petrol-electric powertrain aimed at buyers who want hybrid efficiency without needing to connect the vehicle to a charger. It is a five-seat small crossover SUV using a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, a dedicated hybrid transmission and a permanent-magnet electric motor. Chery’s Australian specification lists the electric motor at 150kW and 310Nm, with the petrol engine contributing 105kW and 215Nm. Drive is sent to the front wheels, and the official combined fuel-consumption figure is 4.9L/100km under ADR 81/02 laboratory testing. Real-world consumption will vary according to traffic, driving style, weather, vehicle load and road conditions.

Unlike a plug-in hybrid, the C5 Hybrid does not require external charging. Regenerative braking and engine generation replenish the high-voltage battery while driving, and the control system moves between petrol and electric assistance automatically. This makes the C5 Hybrid particularly relevant to apartment dwellers, renters and other Australian motorists who want some of the low-speed smoothness and fuel-saving potential of electrification without planning around charging access. The trade-off is that it cannot provide the long electric-only commuting range offered by a plug-in hybrid or battery-electric SUV.

The Australian range is split into Urban and Ultimate grades. The Urban provides 17-inch alloy wheels, synthetic leather seating, LED headlights, dual 12.3-inch screens, wired and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a six-speaker sound system, proximity-key entry with push-button start and a six-way powered driver's seat. The Ultimate adds 18-inch alloy wheels, a power tailgate, a power sunroof, a 360-degree around-view monitor, privacy glass, red brake callipers, a 50W wireless phone charger, selectable ambient lighting and an eight-speaker Sony sound system. Chery’s current specification sheet also lists heated front seats on both grades, with ventilated front seats and a heated steering wheel added to the Ultimate.

Safety equipment is broad for a compact SUV. The C5 Hybrid specification includes autonomous emergency braking, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning and prevention, emergency lane keeping, intelligent adaptive cruise control, lane centring, blind-spot detection, rear cross-traffic assistance and driver monitoring. Seven airbags are listed, including a front-centre airbag. Buyers should note that the existing ANCAP rating information for the C5 applies to the petrol C5 and E5 electric variants; the current ANCAP listing does not state that the rating applies to the newly introduced C5 Hybrid, so it is better to assess the Hybrid on its confirmed safety specification unless ANCAP formally extends coverage.

Practicality is typical of the small-SUV class rather than a larger family wagon. The C5 Hybrid measures 4,435mm long, 1,822mm wide and 1,591mm high with a 2,610mm wheelbase, which should suit urban parking and everyday suburban use better than a larger SUV. The front MacPherson-strut and rear multi-link suspension layout is more sophisticated than a basic torsion-beam arrangement, while the official towing limit is 750kg for both braked and unbraked trailers. That towing figure makes the C5 Hybrid suitable for light-duty towing rather than heavier caravans or large trailers.

Chery Australia backs the C5 Hybrid with a seven-year unlimited-kilometre vehicle warranty, seven years of capped-price servicing and up to seven years of roadside assistance when the stated servicing conditions are met. The high-voltage battery carries an eight-year unlimited-kilometre warranty under Chery’s terms and exclusions. For buyers comparing new small SUVs in Australia, the C5 Hybrid's strengths are its no-plug hybrid convenience, strong equipment level and compact footprint. Its limitations are front-wheel drive only, modest towing capacity and the need to step up to the Ultimate for several premium convenience features. It is best suited to drivers who value urban efficiency and easy ownership over extended electric-only driving.
